Unthinkable even 5 years ago, this class is long overdue...who's best? Let us oppose 4 Scotch whiskies to 4 Japanese whiskies, in different categories, i.e. Single Malt, blended whisky, single grain...and let our noses and palates judge where excellence come from! Let's hope for a tie, as both nations produce outstanding spirits. Whisky is only one alcoholic beverage Japan makes...sake, soju, awamori, wine, beer, plum wine and so many more, you just name it, they make it. On the other hand, Scotland, about 5 times smaller than its new rival, makes an incredible amount of whisky, but not much else. And this is how we used to think: Scotch is made in Scotland, that is their specialty and nobody can challenge this style...but take the same ingredients, and make it the same way...only somewhere else and by different people, and you get either a copycat or a better product. You will decide. It will be a fair battle. Japan is known for its attachment to time-honored traditions, and its constant thirst for innovation and perfection as well. Scotland has always embraced modernity but never denied its heritage. Similarities and differences will be explored. You're getting two classes in one sitting.
